The central idea behind the design of this business was inspired by the revival of the Greek traditional grocery store, and the contrastive minimalism of the modern world. The aforementioned gap was bridged by the combination of traditional furniture, and simple parallelogram shapes that blend with one another. Thus, the antiquated wood, the hand-made furniture, and the natural materials come in contrast with the sharp surfaces made of lacquered wood and glass, with the radiant blue walls that complete the whole setting.
The blending does not stop to the materials, but it is also transferred to the relationship between employee and customer, since there isn’t a physical barrier between them. There is just a notional line from the geometrical motif created by handmade cement tiling.
The name of the shop “Lalaggi” comes from the crispy strips of dough, coiled in random spirals, reminding us of the famous Plumen lamps, which are the only exhibit of the shop window.
Η ανάκτηση της γοητείας ενός ελληνικού παντοπωλείου που έρχεται σε άμεση αντίθεση με τις minimal φόρμες της σύγχρονης εποχής, αποτέλεσε την πρόκληση αλλά ταυτόχρονα και την κεντρική ιδέα σχεδιασμού του καταστήματος. Το χάσμα αυτό γεφυρώθηκε με τον άμεσο διάλογο μεταξύ των παραδοσιακών επίπλων και των λιτών παραλληλόγραμμων όγκων, όπου το ένα αναμειγνύεται με το άλλο. Έτσι, τα παλαιωμένα ξύλα, τα χειροποίητα έπιπλα και τα φυσικά υλικά, έρχονται σε αντίθεση με τις καθαρές επιφάνειες από λάκα ή γυαλί, ενώ το έντονο μπλε χρώμα στους τοίχους, χαρακτηρίζει την όλη σύνθεση.
Η ανάμειξη δε σταματά στα υλικά αλλά επεκτείνεται και στη σχέση υπαλλήλου και πελάτη, αφού δεν υπάρχει ένας φυσικός διαχωρισμός ανάμεσά τους, παρά μόνο η νοητή λωρίδα από το γεωμετρικό μοτίβο που δημιουργούν τα χειροποίητα τσιμεντοπλακάκια.
Το όνομα του καταστήματος "λαλάγγι" (lalaggi) που άλλο δεν είναι παρά τραγανές λωρίδες από ζύμη, τυλιγμένες σε ακανόνιστα σπιράλ, μας θύμισαν τις διάσημες λάμπες Plumen, οι οποίες αποτελούν και το μόνο έκθεμα της βιτρίνας.
